History

In 1970, Roque and Cookie Vela developed a passion for bowling. One year later in 1971, Roque Vela would leave his job at the US Postal Service to become a full time partner/owner/operator of the original Jett Bowl on Saunders just south of old Laredo Air Force Base. LAFB was a training site for jet pilots, hence the name “Jett” Bowl. As they say, The rest is history…

  • 1976 – Pla-Mor was opened and the Vela’s had a stake in both Jett Bowl and Pla-Mor
  • 1979 – The Vela family bought out all partners and became sole owners of both Jett Bowl and Pla-Mor
  • 1985 – Pla-Mor closed its doors when the lease was acquired by the new owners
  • 1986 – The Vela family began to build Jett Bowl North
  • 1987 – In June of 1987, Jett Bowl North opened on McPherson
  • 1993 – The original Jett Bowl was closed

For over four decades now, the Vela family has worked to provide the community with great family-friendly entertainment. Today they continue to serve Laredo and add to its current offering of bowling, billiards, arcade, party rooms, and delicious food. In the spring of 2018, Jett Bowl Lanes, Inc. will introduce its sister facility, Pla-Mor Family Entertainment Center. Jett Bowl North will continue its tradition of bowling, parties, fundraisers, and the most competitive bowling leagues in South Texas.
