The Epiphany of the Lord

January 8, 2017
They opened their treasures
and offered him gifts
of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.— Matthew 2:11b

The unfolding of the story of the Incarnation continues today as the Church celebrates the Epiphany. The tale of the magi from the East is one of the most fascinating in all of scripture. It has much to teach us about what we can come to expect, even in circumstances and places that may seem insignificant or small. Bethlehem was a tiny town, what we might refer to today as a town without even one stop light. Yet it is over this seemingly insignificant place that the guiding star stops in its own search for the place where the Savior would be born. Too often we fail to recognize the fact that the star of Bethlehem comes to rest in our everyday lives, where we can experience God’s presence, manifested in ever new ways. Epiphany calls us to shake off our stupor and recognize the One who comes to save us.Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc

A note of Gratitude from Msgr. Alex

As the Christmas Season draws to a close this week on Monday with the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, I wish to take this moment to thank all our parishioners and friends who helped us celebrate the Advent and Christmas Season. Many parishioners helped and served behind the scenes to help us devoutly celebrate these Advent and Christmas. To all the ministries that led our Posadas, thank you so much. To all who brought Christmas Gifts for children, you helped bless over 1,000 children. To our St. Vincent de Paul Society that coordinated our Angel Tree, thank you for your service. To our Nocturnal Society that provided space heater to families thank you for thoughtfulness. To our Liturgical Music leaders, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, Deacons and Sacristans, thank you for leading us in worship. To all who send baked goods and tasty Christmas treats to the Parish Office, thank you! And last but not least, to all of you, our parishioners and friends who like the shepherds on Christmas Night, you gathered and joined us in faith to celebrate the greatest birthday ever – thank you for your love and devotion. I pray that as the Magi followed the star to Jesus, you too may follow the path Jesus sets before you, and that you may find the Light of the Word, Jesus our Savoir.
