Dislocations and Joint Injuries

A dislocated joint is an emergency.  It is a joint injury that forces the ends of bones out of position. If you or your loved one experiences one, seek immediate help at Clear Choice Emergency Room. Our skilled physicians and staff will provide you with the proper treatment to return your bones back to their normal position, and after proper rest and rehab, the limb should soon be back to normal function.

Athletes and seniors are more susceptible to dislocations. The cause is often a fall or a blow, most often from playing a contact sport. You can dislocate your ankles, knees, shoulders, hips, elbows and jaw. You can also dislocate your finger and toe joints. Dislocated joints often are swollen, very painful and visibly out of place, and more than likely, you may not be able to move it.

When to visit Clear Choice Emergency Room:

Physicians at Clear Choice Emergency Room will provide the appropriate treatment depending on which joint is dislocated and the severity of the injury. Treatment might include manipulations to reposition your bones, medicine, a splint or sling, and rehabilitation. When properly repositioned, a joint will usually function and move normally again in a few weeks.

Clear Choice Emergency Room is open seven days a week, 365 days a year, and at any given time, you will be seen by a board certified, highly experienced emergency care physician.
