The IceRays return for their 24th season as well as their 12th season as members of the NAHL. The team will play an evenly-distributed 56-game regular season schedule exclusively against the South Division plus four more contests at the NAHL Showcase from Sep. 14-17, 2022 in Blaine, Minn. The IceRays play each divisional team eight times with four games coming both at home and on the road head-to-head. The South Division will once again consist of eight teams with seven teams returning, making it the most populated division in the NAHL. New to the South Division this season is the Oklahoma Warriors, who relocated from Wichita Falls following the 2021-22 season.
All home games will begin at 7:05 p.m. at the American Bank Center with all games on either Thursday, Friday or Saturday. The IceRays will play four home games on Wednesday nights with 14 Friday night contests and 10 Saturday night games. Last year, the IceRays split their home schedule down the middle with a 14-14-0 record and won their lone home overtime result.
The IceRays begin the season with a six-game homestand at the American Bank Center starting with a pair of games on September 23 & 24 and closing on October 7-8. The IceRays host the El Paso Rhinos and New Mexico Ice Wolves before closing the homestand with the start of a home-and-home series against the reigning South Division Champions, the Lone Star Brahmas, through mid-October. Following that, the IceRays will be back-and-forth between home and road games, hosting the Oklahoma Warriors for the first time on October 21 & 22 as well as the Amarillo Wranglers on November 11 & 12 while mixing in a trip to El Paso and New Mexico.
Thanksgiving Weekend begins a four-game homestand with another pair of games against New Mexico and El Paso, including only two December games prior to the holiday break on December 1 & 2. From there, the IceRays go from one side of the state through the other in a four-game road trip to open their season sets against both the Odessa Jackalopes and Shreveport Mudbugs heading into the holidays. The IceRays will then come out of the break with another four games at the American Bank Center against Shreveport and Odessa as part of an exclusive eight-game stretch.
The IceRays spend the next eight weeks flipping between home and road weekends while seeing all seven South Division opponents in that time. The team’s only repeat opponent will be against the Warriors with their first trip to Oklahoma in junior franchise history as well as the first since Jan. 12, 2008 against the Oklahoma City Barons as members of the Central Hockey League (CHL). The IceRays will host Lone Star on January 20-21, Oklahoma on February 3 & 4, Odessa on February 17 & 18, and Shreveport on March 3 & 4.
The IceRays close the 2022-23 regular season with 10 of their final 12 games on the road with their lone two home games closing the home portion on March 30 & 31 against Amarillo as the back end of a home-and-home weekend series to close March. The IceRays play five different opponents in those six weekends and will close the 2022-23 regular season on April 14 & 15 on the road against Lone Star.
Opponents for the 2022 NAHL Showcase at the Schwann Super Rink in Blaine, Minn. will be announced at a later date. Ticket information regarding the upcoming 2022-23 regular season will also be released at a later time.
