ODESSA, Texas – The Corpus Christi IceRays tied the best start in franchise history, improving to 5-2-1-2 (13 pts.) through the first 10 games of the season with a 1-0 win via shootout Saturday against the Odessa Jackalopes (3-1-1-1, 8 pts.) at Ector County Coliseum. Corpus Christi’s Cal Sandquist stopped all 27 shots through regulation and overtime, as well as all three Odessa shootout attempts, to record his first career NAHL shutout. Cole Golden scored the lone goal of the shootout.
After the IceRays successfully killed off a two-minute minor in overtime, the game went to a shootout. Golden was the only of six combined shooters to score, sending a backhand shot past Randazzo’s blocker in the first half of round three. Sandquist then denied Odessa’s Matt Clark to seal the victory.
Shots were tied in the game, 27-27. Odessa goaltender Aaron Randazzo also recorded his first career NAHL shutout. The five wins, two regulation losses and three overtime/shootout losses ties a team-best start from the 2014-15 season.
The IceRays and Jackalopes wrap up their three-in-three weekend with a 5:00 PM CT faceoff Sunday at Ector County Coliseum.
