Weekend Recap: IceRays Finish Home Stand 3-2

Oct 12, 2021

Heading into the weekend, the IceRays had tons of momentum coming off of a sweep of the Lone Star Brahmas in the team’s last two games.  Momentum is a great thing to have heading into a weekend that the team were to play two of the top three teams in the NAHL South Division.

On Friday and Saturday, the IceRays welcomed Wichita Falls into American Bank Center for a two-game series.

Night one of the two-game set against the Warriors went the way of the Rays as Corpus Christi battled back from down a goal entering the third period.  Albin Persson got the scoring started for the IceRays slamming home a one-time feed from Jude Kurtas.  Cam Crolley scored to give the IceRays a lead just under thirty seconds later.  Frank Jenkins would add an insurance goal on a rebound left from a Colby Seitz shot, which became the game winner as the team won 3-2.

Saturday night was not as nice to Corpus Christi on the scoreboard to Corpus Christi.  Wichita Falls was able to outshoot the IceRays 35-28.  Although the effort of Damon Beaver was excellent in net, it was a goal without Beaver in net that put the cherry on top for Wichita Falls as they won 3-1.

It was a quick turn around from one series to the next as the IceRays hosted Odessa on Sunday afternoon.  Coming into the weekend, Odessa had sole possession of first place, but lost that right on Saturday night with the win from Wichita Falls.  Odessa would take a 2-0 lead half way into the first period and never look back as the Jackalopes won 5-2 and earned first place back.

The three games wrap up a five game home stand for the IceRays.  The Rays finish the home stand 3-2.

After the weekend, the IceRays now sit in a tie for fifth place in the NAHL South Division.  They have a chance to move up coming up this weekend with a two-game series against New Mexico upcoming.  Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 8:30 CT.  You can catch both games this weekend on HockeyTV and the Brewster Street Ice House app.
