The first ever matchup between Corpus Christi and El Paso started off hot. El Paso scored just a couple of minutes into the game giving them a 1-0 lead.
The IceRays would not be down for too long as Braden Rourke would score the tying goal. The goal was Rourke’s second on the season. Later on, former El Paso Rhino Stepan Kuznetsov would bury his first as an IceRay to get the IceRays on top 2-1.
The IceRays headed to the penalty kill late in the first period for the first time on Friday. On the man advantage, El Paso would strike to even it at two aside headed into intermission.
In the second period, El Paso would strike three times to give themselves a 5-2 lead headed into the third period. Although Jack Lambert and Braden Rourke would strike in the third period, El Paso was able to get two of their own and win 7-4.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow with puck drop scheduled for 8 pm Central once again.
