The IceRays came into the weekend in attempts to gain momentum off of the win in Amarillo on Saturday night. With Shreveport right on the Rays’ tail in the standings, this weekend’s series could not be any more important.
In the first, it was the Mudbugs finding the scoreboard first just over half way through the period. Shreveport was not done finding the back of the net in the first as they added two later on in the period to make it 3-0 headed into the first intermission.
The second period saw Shreveport’s lead double to 6-0 throughout the first ten and a half minutes. The IceRays finally found their answer on the power play as Trey Zagrzebski scored his third on the season, which all have came on the man advantage. Butler and Harvey received assists on the goal. Shreveport added another before time expired on the middle frame to bring the lead back to six.
In the third, the scoreboard was at a standstill for all twenty minutes with Shreveport taking a 7-1 victory away from night one at American Bank Center. With the win, the Mudbugs pass the IceRays in the standings to take sole possession of fifth place in the south division.
The loss for the Rays has to be responded with a positive outcome on Saturday night as Corpus Christi now sits in sixth place in the south division. Puck drop for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 7:05 pm at American Bank Center.
