The IceRays were looking to extend a Saturday win streak to six on Saturday night with Shreveport in town. Friday night went the way of the Mudbugs 7-1, and Corpus Christi was looking to bounce back.
In the first period, it was Corpus Christi to strike first off of the stick of Colby Seitz. Seitz scored on a breakaway getting the feed from Braden Rourke. The goal for Seitz was his sixth of the season and the second in two weekends for the New York native.
Shreveport tallied two to take a 2-1 lead, but the IceRays struck at the end of period number one to even things at 2-2. After a face off was broken up and appeared to be heading out of the zone, Rourke gloved it down and fired it toward the net. It may have gotten deflected along the way, which is what the referees saw as they credited the goal to Michael Casey.
At 2-2 following the first intermission, each team added one in the second to keep things even after forty. It was Shreveport striking first, but the IceRays found a shorthanded goal to even things at 3-3. The goal was a wacky one as a Juraj Elias attempt went off of the end wall out front to Dylan Contreras who slammed it home for his fourth of the season.
Shreveport scored twice in the third. Corpus Christi had chances to get some back but ultimately fell 5-3.
The IceRays are at home to face off against the Wichita Falls Warriors next weekend at American Bank Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on both Friday and Saturday with some special themes at the rink.
On Friday, it’s Gold Falcon Custom Jewelers Night, which means a giveaway item for the first 500 fans at ABC on Friday. Saturday, join us for Whataburger Community Night. The IceRays will be wearing special Whataburger themed jerseys to be auctioned off after the game. Tickets are on sale now at the American Bank Center box office and online on Ticketmaster.
