Coming in with a four game winning streak, the IceRays returned home on Friday night to face off against the Amarillo Wranglers. With a win on Thursday night, the Rays would be tied in points for a playoff spot.
In the first, the IceRays had the shots advantage for the period at 18-9 as they came out hot. Sadly for Corpus Christi, though, Amarillo scored the lone goal in the period on the man advantage.
Period number two looked very similar to period number one with the Rays outshooting Amarillo, but the Wranglers were able to extend their lead to two with a second power play goal.
Coming down the stretch of the game, Corpus Christi had an excellent opportunity to get within one with multiple power plays. They weren’t able to strike on one of those, but a Stepan Kuznetsov goal brought the IceRays within a goal of Amarillo.
The IceRays weren’t able to find an equalizer as Amarillo pulled out a 2-1 victory in game one. Corpus Christi will have a chance to get revenge on the Wranglers on Friday night with puck drop of game two scheduled for 7:05 pm.
