Former IceRays goaltender Dryden McKay has been nominated for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award and the Mike Richter Award. McKay is currently the star goalie at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN.
McKay played for Corpus Christi during the 2015-16 season playing in 34 games in his lone season with the Rays. McKay recorded a 2.47 goals against average with the IceRays while stopping 92.1% of the shots that came his way.
Since his time with the IceRays, McKay has shined with Minnesota State. In his fourth year with the Mavericks, he has broke the record for career shutouts in a career surpassing Ryan Miller. He currently has 32 in his career and that number is only growing with Minnesota State well on their way to another NCAA tournament appearance.
Being nominated for both the Hobey Baker and Mike Richter is something that McKay is used to as he was nominated for both last season. In fact, he was not only a nominee for both awards but was named a finalist for both. He ultimately fell to Cole Caufield for the Hobey Baker and Jackson LaFontaine for the Mike Richter award.
He looks to be the favorite for the Mike Richter Award this season while still being a front runner for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award. Fans can vote online for the Hobey Baker on their website or at this link.
