The IceRays lost on Friday night to Amarillo 3-0 and were looking for revenge on Saturday night.
Amarillo and Corpus Christi started the first period exchanging shot on goal numbers. Eventually, Amarillo was the first to find the back of the net off of a deflection past Damon Beaver. They took a 1-0 lead into the locker room after period number one.
In period number two, Amarillo extended their lead scoring two goals to once again lead the IceRays 3-0 as they hit intermission.
Things got interesting in period three, though, as the IceRays were the first to strike in the final frame. Nathan Butler buried a rebound from a Davis Borozinskis shot to get the IceRays within two. The goal ties Butler for the team lead in goals with six. It also became the first point in the NAHL for Davis Borozinskis in his second game with the team.
The IceRays were not done yet as Charlie Merkley deflected a Kevin O’Keefe shot into the back of the net to bring the IceRays within one. The goal was the first of the season for Charlie Merkley. The two goals came just under two minutes of each other.
The Rays pulled goaltender Damon Beaver and had a bunch of chances with the extra attacker, but Amarillo eventually found the back of the empty net to come away with a 4-2 win.
The IceRays are back home next weekend as they face off against the New Mexico Ice Wolves of Friday and Saturday at American Bank Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
