IceRays Blanked by Warriors 5-0 in Return to American Bank Center

Feb 3, 2023

Corpus Christi, TX (Feb 3, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays’ struggles against Oklahoma continued as they were shut out 5-0 on Friday, February 3rd at the American Bank Center.

Game Action

The IceRays looked like a team on a mission early in the first period, generating four quality shots on goal in the first 90 seconds of the game. The physicality from last weekend was a trend that continued and was evident from the get-go. The American Bank Center crowd erupted when Anthony Cafarelli dropped the gloves with Warriors defenseman Owen Dyer at the 12:42 mark of the first period.

The ice tilted in the Warriors’ favor as the period wore on, and Malte Hasselgren was able to get to a juicy rebound and beat Malant to open the scoring for the Warriors at 16:17. Despite the goal, Lukas Malant was sensational, stopping 19 of the 20 shots thrown his way in the first frame.

The Warriors continued to pepper Lukas Malant as the second stanza began. The IceRays were assessed a couple penalties but were able to kill them off successfully. Then, Blaise Miller made it 2-0 at 10:57, and an insurance goal from Brendan Williams at 13:04 made it 3-0 Warriors. The second period was not as toxic for the IceRays tonight but still found themselves down heading into the third.

The IceRays were handed a great opportunity to claw their way back into the game when they went on a five-on-three man advantage in the first half of the third period. They were able to find some good attacking zone rhythm but were unable to solve Warriors netminder Daniel Duris.

At the 9:56 mark, just after the Warriors came back to even strength, it was William Lawson-Body who snapped one by Malant to make it 4-0 Oklahoma. Garrett Horsager struck on the power play for his sixth of the year at 12:15, making it a 5-0 Warriors lead and that was your final.

Lukas Malant made a number of tremendous stops for the IceRays despite what the final score showed, totaling 38 on the night. Daniel Duris stopped all 36 of the shots he faced in net for the Warriors, securing his third shutout of the year. The IceRays were 0-3 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill.
