Coming off of a rough weekend at home, the IceRays hit the road to face off against the Odessa Jackalopes. The game remained tight throughout the entire contest as it required extra time.
Period number one was a very back and forth period with quality chances on both sides. The IceRays were able to strike first with Nathan Butler deflecting in a pass to give Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead.
The Rays maintained that 1-0 advantage throughout the second period of play and brought it into the third. Odessa struck first in the third evening things at one aside before the Rays were able to strike on the two man advantage. Zach Dill found the back of the net off of a Jayden Jensen shot to regain the lead for the IceRays.
Odessa struck again to even things at two aside and force overtime. In the extra frame, the Rays started out on the man advantage. Although the team did not score on the power play, Corpus Christi was able to find the dagger in night one thanks to the stick of Kevin O’Keefe. The goal was O’Keefe’s first of the season and earned the IceRays the second point.
The two teams will battle once again tomorrow night in Odessa with puck drop scheduled for 7:15 once again. You can listen to tomorrow night’s game on Brewster Street Radio and simulcast HockeyTV.
