ICERAYS COMPLETE COMEBACK IN 2-1 WIN

WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi IceRays (27-16-3-4) earn their first comeback win with two goals in the third for a 2-1 victory over the Wichita Falls Wildcats (29-17-3-2) on Saturday night from the Kay Yeager Coliseum. The IceRays earn six of 10 points in the five-game stretch against the Wildcats.

The IceRays found an early spark in the first period in terms of attempt production, placing 18 shots on the Wildcats netminder, however the home side earned the first goal of the contest. At 3:09, Wildcats forward Matt Hanewall swatted a loose puck in the right with a back hand to take the 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless and penalty-ridden second period, the IceRays made their charge back into the game at the outset of the third period. IceRays captain Mason Krueger scored the game-tying goal at 4:59 on a third attempt to the net, drawing even at 1-1. Less than two minutes later, IceRays forward David Baskerville stabbed in a free puck into the short side of the net at 6:34 to jump out to a 2-1 lead. The IceRays outshot the Wildcats 11-1 in the first 12 minutes of the third before the home team pressed back. Even with the Wildcats netminder pulled, the IceRays held on to claim the 2-1 win.

IceRays netminder Tomáš Vomáčka (16-11-4) earned the win, stopping 36 of 37 shots, while Wildcats goaltender Jared Dempsey (13-7-1) was saddled with the loss, turning down 35 of 37 shots. The IceRays return to the American Bank Center on Wednesday, Mar. 15 for a single-game meeting with the Shreveport Mudbugs on Grades For Blades Night and a Winning Weekday.
