El Paso, TX (Feb 11, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays fell to the El Paso Rhinos at the El Paso County Events Center on Saturday, February 11th, 2023.
Game Action
The IceRays did not have the start they had in the opening game of the weekend series. The Rhinos were the quicker team off the jump tonight and drew first blood as Frank Tafelski notched his sixth goal of the year to make it 1-0 Rhinos at the 3:39 mark of the first.
The IceRays were able to respond, however, when Hans Ulvebne made a nice play in the right-wing corner and found Anthony Cafarelli parked in the far circle who gunned it past El Paso netminder Nolan Suggs for his 11th goal of the year to tie the game 1-1 at 6:26. The Rhinos would take a 2-1 lead when Tyler Green and Tory Lund once again set up Frank Tafelski for his second goal of the period at the 10:40 mark of the first.
The Rhinos came out strong once again to start the second period but Patrik Jurcak kept it a one-goal game, at least until the 12:27 mark which is when El Paso forward David Tolan made it 3-1 in favor of the Rhinos. The IceRays registered 11 shots and drew four penalties during the middle stanza but came away empty after 40 minutes.
Unfortunately, Frank Tafelski’s second goal back in the first period proved to be the game winner for the Rhinos as they held on to defeat the IceRays 3-1. The IceRays were not able to put forth the full 60-minute effort that we saw from them last night. Despite killing off all six El Paso power plays, the IceRays were scoreless on five power play opportunities of their own.
