The seventh matchup of the season against the New Mexico Ice Wolves was one the IceRays were excited for. The Rays had went 3-1-2 against New Mexico this season including 3-0-0 in the last three.
In period number one, the two teams battled back and forth with the chances being even on both sides. Shots on goal favored New Mexico after one, but it was the second period that the Ice Wolves had the scoreboard tilt in their favor.
Three goals within the first half of period two got New Mexico on top. Two of New Mexico’s goals were scored on the man-advantage for the Ice Wolves.
Corpus Christi struck back late in the second period with a rebound being slammed home off of the stick of Oliver Stumpel. The goal was Stumpel’s first since October 29th against Shreveport.
The IceRays goal was their only one they found in the game despite having six power play attempts including one five-minute power play opportunity. New Mexico added a short handed goal in the third and skated away with a three-goal victory.
The two teams battle again on Saturday night with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 at American Bank Center.
