The IceRays hit the road for the first time since mid-December on Friday night as they faced off against the Shreveport Mudbugs.
The Mudbugs got out to a quick start in period number one as they scored in the first two minutes of the game. The IceRays got a spark from a Cole Helm fight, but the spark quickly lost its flame . The Rays had to go to a five minute penalty kill with one of its top defenders, Dom Foglia, hitting the showers early.
The IceRays killed off nine minutes of penalties in the first period, but it was two more even strength goals at the end of the period for Shreveport that earned them a 3-0 lead at intermission number one.
In the second period, the Rays struck first as Nathan Butler scored in his 100th NAHL game. This was the only goal that Corpus Christi got past the Mudbugs goaltender. Shreveport tallied two more in the second.
No one found the back of the net in the third period, and the Mudbugs took game one of the two game set.
Tomorrow night, the IceRays will have a chance to get a revenge against Shreveport with puck drop scheduled for 7:11 pm. Coverage for tomorrow night’s game can be found on Brewster Street Radio and HockeyTV.
