El Paso, TX (Feb 10, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays got back in the win column with an impressive 4-1 win over the Rhinos at the El Paso County Events Center on Friday, February 10th, 2023.
Game Action
After a tough couple weekends against the NAHL-leading Oklahoma Warriors, the IceRays regrouped and made a statement in the first period in El Paso. Nils Forselius backhanded home his second goal as an IceRay after a nice feed from Dylan Contreras to put the IceRays up 1-0 at the 4:50 mark of the first. After missing the last couple games due to illness, Blake Lewis capitalized on a juicy rebound in the slot on a play created by Logan Neilson which made it 2-0 IceRays at 7:41 of the first.
Logan Neilson added to the lead at the 2:59 mark of the second period after a rush to the net and a nice finish past the glove of Nolan Suggs to make it 3-0 IceRays, Cam Crolley and Blake Lewis each picking up an assist. IceRays netminder Patrik Jurcak continued to look strong in net for the duration of the second stanza.
El Paso forward AJ Reed made things interesting when he got the Rhinos on the board at the 5:19 mark of the third to make it a 3-1 game, but Patrik Jurcak was able to withstand several bids from the Rhinos for the duration of regulation and kept them to just one goal. Anthony Cafarelli scored an ENG at 18:41 for his 10th of the year to seal the deal for the IceRays.
Patrik Jurcak was tremendous in net for the IceRays, stopping 37 of the 38 shots he faced. A much more disciplined night for the IceRays as they were assessed just one penalty in the game. They were scoreless on two power play opportunities. Despite being outshot 38-27, the IceRays were able to secure the victory and pull even with the Rhinos in the standings at 25 points.
