Corpus Christi, TX (Feb 4, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays found themselves victims of Oklahoma’s high octane offense once again as the Warriors skated to a 7-2 victory on Saturday, February 4th at the American Bank Center.
Game Action
The second game of the weekend series had a similar start to the game last Saturday in Oklahoma City with the Warriors notching the first goal just 51 seconds into the game. It came off a breakaway from Brendan Williams for his 17th goal of the year right after a great chance from Simon Becar was kicked out by Daniel Duris at the opposite end of the ice.
The Warriors struck again just a couple minutes later as Hunter Allen broke in and snapped one by Lukas Malant for his third of the year. Rylan Brady made it 3-0 after a deflection for his 17th of the year at 10:31, and then Therien Thiesing added insult to injury with a point shot that found the twine to make it a 4-0 game.
Fortunately, the IceRays were able to get on the board as Wolfgang Govedaris beat Duris glove side on a nice play set up by newly acquired winger, Nate Murray, to make it 4-1 with four minutes left in the first.
Penalties got the IceRays into trouble in the second period. Logan Neilson was called for a hooking infraction and Joey Delgreco snapped one by Malant on the ensuing power play to make it 5-1 Warriors, ending the night in net for Lukas Malant. For the second straight weekend, Patrik Jurcak came in to replace Malant after the Warriors took a 5-1 lead.
Wolfegang Govedaris infused some more energy into the building when he dropped the gloves at the 6:50 mark in response to a hit from Warriors forward Malte Hasselgren. Govedaris was ejected from the game and the Warriors were given a five-minute power play which the IceRays were able to kill off.
Dylan Contreras gave the IceRays a glimmer of hope when he beat Duris short side for his seventh goal of the season at the 5:07 mark of the third period to make it a 5-2 game. Two goals, however, was all the IceRays would manage to get by Oklahoma goaltender Daniel Duris. William Ahlrik and Blaise Miller would each add a goal later in the third to make it 7-2 Warriors and that was your final.
Patrik Jurcak stopped 12 of the 14 shots he faced after relieving Lukas Malant in the second period. It was another game where the IceRays spent a lot of time in the box, accruing 37 penalty minutes. They allowed two power play goals and were scoreless on just one power play opportunity.
