The Rays looked to snap a five-game losing skid on Thursday night as they welcomed in the El Paso Rhinos for the first of a two game series. With it being the last home series of the season, Corpus hoped to put on a show for their home fans.
In the first, a shorthanded goal got things started for El Paso in the first period. It became a goal that they never looked back again after. El Paso tallied another one in the first to make it 2-0 at the first intermission.
The second period saw El Paso add another pair of goals to make it 4-0. Early in the third a fifth tally was found. The IceRays were able to find opportunities late down the stretch of the game and find the back of the net twice.
Scoring the first IceRays goal of the night was Oliver Stumpel. Stumpel has struggled with injury problems this season having only played in three games since early December. When Oliver has been in the lineup for the Rays, he has been successful on the offensive end recording 17 points in 26 games.
The second goal was scored by the red hot Colby Seitz. Seitz has a three game goal streak heading into Friday night’s game two with the Rhinos. He has also scored in six of the Rays last eight games.
Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 pm at American Bank Center. Coverage can be found on Brewster Street Radio and HockeyTV with Pregame powered by H-E-B getting underway at 6:45.
