Corpus Christi, TX (Jan. 21, 2023) – The Corpus Christi IceRays completed the weekend sweep over the top-seeded Lone Star Brahmas in front of another raucous crowd on Saturday, January 21st at the American Bank Center.
Game Action
The IceRays picked up right where they left off as Gage Parillo took advantage of a crazy bounce off the end wall and found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Lone Star defenseman Jacob Karpa finished off a nice feed from Jakub Teply at the 10:31 mark to tie the game at one for his second goal of the weekend series.
On their second power play of the period, it was Stepan Kuznetsov who ripped a shot over the glove of William Gramme to give the IceRays the 2-1 lead.
The power play success continued in the second period as this time it was Kuznetsov who set up Hans Ulvebne for his eighth of the year. It was at this point that Gramme was pulled for the second consecutive game with Arthur Smith coming in on relief.
Who but Captain Anthony Cafarelli scored to give the IceRays a 4-1 cushion at the 12:14 mark of the third period off a great set up right off the faceoff by Nils Forselius. The Brahmas made things interesting when Matt MacDonald broke through on the power play less than two minutes later to make it a 4-2 game, but Cafarelli would seal the deal with an empty netter to make it 5-2 for his fourth goal of the weekend.
The power play has been clicking lately for the IceRays who tallied two more goals on the man advantage tonight. They weren’t too shabby on the penalty kill either, staving off eight of nine Brahmas power plays. Lukas Malant looked confident as ever with 37 saves in his third consecutive win.
