Weekend Preview: IceRays Travel to Wichita Falls

Mar 25, 2022

Coming off of a rough weekend at Lone Star, the IceRays are set to play the back end of a four-game road trip this weekend at Wichita Falls.

Earlier this season, when the Rays made their first trip to Kay Yeager Coliseum, the Rays came away with a sweep.  It was a 5-4 win in a shootout in night one’s game and a 5-4 win in overtime on night two.  Standouts for the Rays in the sweep included Braden Rourke who recorded four goals and five points on the weekend.  This earned him the second star of the week in the South Division.

Besides the trip to Wichita Falls, the Rays hosted the Warriors for four games this season at American Bank Center splitting both series.  Corpus Christi holds a 4-2-0 record against Wichita Falls this season. The Rays took night one of both two game series at American Bank Center including a dramatic seven round shootout win in early March.

Although the Rays have the edge in the series in wins and losses, Wichita Falls has outshot the Rays 268-166 over the six matchups.  This means that the IceRays have relied on stellar goaltending to get the results in the win column that they have.  Damon Beaver comes into the weekend with a 3-2-0 record against the IceRays this season against the Warriors including a .925 save percentage.  Even in limited work against Wichita Falls, Stefan Carney shined in his one appearance stopping 64 shots on goal and putting up a save percentage of .941 in the 5-4 overtime victory in December.

The IceRays are in need of points as Corpus currently occupies seventh place in the south division.  Wichita Falls comes into the weekend series in third in the south division coming off of a 3-0 win on Wednesday night against Shreveport.  They currently sit seven points ahead of Odessa in the standings, which marks the in and out of the playoff picture line.
